Alex Colville offers a fresh perspective on the work of one of Canada’s most celebrated artists. A creative thinker, deeply engaged with both his local surroundings and the broader world, Colville’s painting developed in dialogue with film and literature, philosophy, law and history.
The exhibition (23.04.2015 - 07.09.2015) surveys the breadth of his practice and includes nearly a hundred paintings alongside early student works and selected prints and drawings. Incorporating a unique thematic approach, this unprecedented exhibition includes pairings with filmmakers, authors, artists, graphic novelists and composers.
celebrates the artist’s legacy and attests to the continued relevance of his work. (Text: National Gallery of Canada)
